This book totally shows the passion and love an architect has for architecture, delving into every worry and feeling that stays in Peter Zumthor’s heart and mind.
Reading it I realized the large amount of aspects that are involved in what any other person would see as a simple “building”, and related to that, the unique view that architects have, compared to other people’s ones.
The way he’s capable of creating and making up a building taking into account that many points just amazes me. How professionals have all those priorities and all that sentiment in those, and they manage to figure out how to unify all of that in a unique work, in a building, that from Zumthor’s eyes would be a place for people to create, for kids to grow up, for families to live, a place full of memories in people’s minds.
I found really interesting the way his eyes work. When he explains how he watches a building we are able to see how he explores every corner and every detail, from material explanation to a more interior one, only with his gaze.
In general, it gave me motivation to achieve that thinking and arrive to have my own priorities through architecture, only by understanding how this professional’s perspective works, helping me navigate a little bit more through this whole new world as is architecture.
